Uzbekistan, Sweden enhance inter-parliamentary ties
Representatives of the Swedish Parliament (Riksdag) have expressed interest in participating as observers in the upcoming Presidential Elections in Uzbekistan.
According to the lower house of Parliament, this was announced during a videoconference of Uzbekistan – Sweden Inter-Parliamentary Group.
The negotiations were attended by members of friendship groups led by the Chairperson of the Cooperation Group of the Swedish Riksdag with the parliaments of Central Asian countries, Hanna Westeren.
The Chairperson of the Committee of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis on International Affairs and Inter-Parliamentary Relations, Dilorom Fayziyeva, provided detailed information on the activities of the chamber, factions of political parties, as well as the Action Strategy on five priority areas of development of Uzbekistan for 2017-2021.
The parties agreed on the further development of cooperation, regular exchange of experience in human rights and gender equality. Representatives of the Swedish parliament expressed their support for the further establishment of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the European Union.
