On the joint meeting of the Kengashes of the Legislative Chamber and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan
On July 15, 2022, a joint meeting of the Kengashes of the Legislative Chamber and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan was held in Tashkent.
At the joint meeting, the appeal of the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman) on the issue of ensuring human rights and freedoms in the Republic of Karakalpakstan was considered.
The meeting adopted a joint decision of the councils of the Oliy Majlis to set up a commission to look into the facts and events that took place in the Republic of Karakalpakstan in July 2022 and to carry out an independent investigation into them.
The decision also approved the Commission's composition and statute.
The Commission includes representatives of the Oliy Majlis and people's deputies, heads and staff of non-governmental and voluntary organizations.
The commission is chaired by the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Oliy Majlis, Feruza Eshmatova.
The results of the investigation will be made public and brought to the attention of the Uzbek public and the international community.
This concluded the joint meeting of the Kengash of the Legislative Chamber and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
