Uzbek and German Leaders Discuss Expansion of Multidimensional Relations
The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev started his visit to Germany with talks with the Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
At the beginning of talks, the President sincerely thanked the German Chancellor for the warm welcome.
It was underscored that Uzbekistan sees Germany as a reliable and strategic partner. Our two nations are bound with deep historical roots. In recent years, the Uzbek-German relations have been advancing dynamically in all areas.
Double growth in mutual trade turnover and in the number of joint projects was noted with satisfaction. The volume of German investments in Uzbekistan’s economy has reached $5,5 billion, of which $4 billion have been attracted in the last few years.
The sides highly assessed the joint business forum held within the visit, following which agreements on the implementation of new trade, investment and technological projects worth $9 billion were reached.
The point is about cooperation in the «green» energy, mining, chemical and pharmaceutical industries, modernization of transport infrastructure, digitalization of agriculture, innovation and other priority areas.
In order to support projects of German companies in Uzbekistan, the sides reached an agreement on full-scale partnership with the KfW bank, Deutsche Bank and German Society for International Cooperation.
The German government expressed readiness to further support Uzbekistan’s entry into the WTO and the soonest signing of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement with the European Union.
The sides stressed the importance of continuing the political dialogue and welcomed the signing of Intergovernmental Declaration on Deepening Multidimensional Cooperation during the visit.
Olaf Scholz expressed support for Uzbekistan’s new regional policy of creating an atmosphere of friendship and mutual confidence in Central Asia and intensifying integration in the region.
An agreement was reached to launch a dialogue platform in the Germany-Central Asia format.
The issues of ensuring regional security, including in the context of the Afghanistan situation were discussed.
The need for continuing humanitarian projects was affirmed, including through a logistics hub and an educational center for Afghan youth in Termez.
A particular attention was paid to the development of transport and logistics. The parties agreed to develop the Trans-Caspian corridor, which will enable to form an effective route connecting the Central Asian region with Europe.
The parties noted with satisfaction the rich cultural and humanitarian agenda. The German side highly valued the unique exhibition of cultural heritage of Uzbekistan opening these days in Berlin.
The sides welcomed the growing interest in learning German language in Uzbekistan. An agreement on the German government’s technical assistance in expanding German language learning in the regions of Uzbekistan was reached.
A total of 16 intergovernmental and interdepartmental documents in economy, trade, finance, education, science and innovations have been signed during the visit.
At the end of the meeting, the President invited the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to visit Uzbekistan.
